Patti and Dave came late in the season to La Casa and Lo de Marcos and immediately were welcomed back and got back into the swing of La Casa. Robbie, Weston and Amalia came to La Casa from Chico, California and worked with los niños in the kitchen AND brought the sport of La Crosse to La Casa! Amalia brought her chocolate chip cookie expertise and baked up batches of cookies with the kids. Kathy, the kid’s mom and a teacher at Rosedale School in Chico, and her husband Ken brought much enthusiasm and bilingual books and supplies donated from friends in Chico. Kendall Goh and Zi Zi came back for their third year in a row! They have now started a tradition of working with los niños to make Chinese lanterns for Chinese New Year's!

Sharon Roome returned to visit La Casa and enjoyed being with the kids once again. She was here to help the kids make cookies to donate to the Amigos de Lo de Marcos event and for the parade to help generate enthusiasm. Heather taught the kids line dancing that they displayed during the parade, while some of the children set a good example by cleaning the streets and the beach. The following day, in a continuation of the event, Manuel from La Casa de los Niños danced with the local grupo folclórico. By the way, los niños made and sold bookmarks at the Amigos event and raised over $100 USD for the cause!

Vallena, a special neighbor from Sebastopol, came to help us at La Casa for three whole weeks. She is very special for many reasons. One of those reasons is that Patti and Dave's daughter, Lauren, was a Nanny for Vallena and her twin brother Forrest for about 5 years when she was still in diapers. She is now almost 14 years old and has a natural sense of adventure and makes a wonderful traveler. She worked at La Casa helping the kids with cooking and craft projects. Vallena helped us make colorful butterfly (mariposa) mobiles to hang in La Casa. We are looking forward to her return and helping us develop our dreams of more opportunities for kids from the US to experience Lo de Marcos and La Casa. We love the idea of young people being exposed to each other's culture and language and look forward to more of it!
Molly is a yoga teacher and workshop leader who has a home in Lo de Marcos. She has a special yoga seminar each year in Lo de Marcos and has introduced her students to La Casa this year. Molly teaches a free English class to the local residents here at La Casa and brought many lovely donations. Pamela and Charles were two of the volunteers who came to La Casa through Molly. Charles brought a wonderful Fish Orgami project to share with the kids. Pamela was there to help in any way she could and had tears in her eyes the day they left. We hope to see them again next year. Another one of Molly's students taught a series of Tai Kuan Do classes at La Casa.
